Cascarilla Powder

Description

Modern Cascarilla’s main ingredient is powdered eggshells. Traditionally it is used to cleanse, purify, and protect from the evil eye, repels negative energies and unwanted spirits.

Cascarilla can be added to ritual baths & floor washes, sprinkled at doors & window sills. Mark protective symbols on your body and add to protection spells, poppits and spell bags.

The use of Cascarilla can be traced back to the native Yoruba traditions of  West Africa, where the use of sacred white earth called “efun” was brought to the New World.  Efun was believed to provide someone with  powerful protection against all evil. Looking for  a substitution for this sacred “white earth”, they started to make a powder from the bark of a  Caribbean plant called Croton eluteria, also  known as the cascarilla tree.

Over time, Santeria practitioners transitioned from using this plant powder, to using crushed eggshells, which were easier to come by and had the added symbolism of the life-giving egg, the name Cascarilla seems to have been kept for convenience.
